Glossary

The words cseen uses, and what each means here. Alphabetical.

TermMeaning
alphaHow see-through a surface is, from 0 to 1. Faces behind show through. See box and surface.
anchorA point on an object that follows it when it moves. a.anchor([x, y, z]), used to attach arrows and links.
atWhere an object stands, as [x, y, z]. For solids and devices it is the centre of the base.
cameraWhat the scene is seen through: parallel (view: 'iso', { yaw, pitch }) or perspective (Camera.perspective). See coordinates and cameras.
chapterA named step on a timeline, tl.chapter('move'), that a reader can jump to.
constructionA flat drawing made of parts that draw on, fill, turn and fade, for showing how a shape is made. new Construct(...). See Constructions.
deviceA drawn object that can carry a screen: monitor, laptop, phone and so on. See the gallery.
fitHow the scene is framed. By default it refits to its contents each frame; fit: 'sphere' frames the bounding sphere, and tl.lockFit(s) fixes it for a whole timeline.
groupNodes that move, turn and scale together. See group.
linkA curved arrow between two objects or anchors that follows them. A pulse can ride it.
nodeAnything in a scene: a shape, a device, a label, a chart. Every node can be placed, animated and themed.
opacityHow visible a whole object is, from 0 to 1. Unlike alpha it fades the object and everything on it.
packA part of the library with its own import: devices, ui, charts, waves, optics, math, flow. The core has none. See packs.
partOne outline or text tag of a construction. Its draw, fill, spin, scale, dx, dy and op can be animated.
playerWhat mount returns: it plays, pauses and redraws a figure in the page.
reversereverse(anim) plays an animation backwards. Every tween needs a from.
roleA name for a colour that CSS decides: accent, ink, faint, warm, cool, s1 to s8. You never pass a hex colour, so every theme works. See theming.
screen pointscene.screen(p): where a point of the scene lands in the picture, to line up something on the page with the figure.
sceneThe thing you build: a camera and a tree of nodes. It draws to SVG at any moment in time.
stillA scene drawn at one moment as a plain SVG string, with renderStill.
timelineA list of animations played in order. A scene at time t is the scene with the timeline replayed to t, so it can be scrubbed.
tweenOne animation of one or more properties of a node, over a duration, with an easing.
viewThe camera of a scene: 'iso', 'front', 'side', 'top', { yaw, pitch } or a perspective camera.
x, y, zAlways right, into the scene, up. See coordinates.
